Here are some outlines of sample itineraries we can offer for school groups. We will work directly with your project leader or teacher in charge to develop an itinerary that is appropriate to your school group's educational needs and other criteria. Please contact us for more information.
Environment and Traditional Land Use in the Sierra de Gredos
This itinerary is designed for older teenagers or university students in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, just 2 hours from Madrid.
All activities accompanied by local experts, including a local geologist/mountain guide, a local Gredos Regional Park technician, local biologist, local farmer, etc.
- 1 day introductory session: visit to Gredos Regional Park Visitor Center and short excursion to observe local ecosystems
- 3 days of geology, ecology and river studies - involving a 3 hour trek to the Gredos Cirque and overnight stay at the Elola Mountain Hut
- 1 day study of traditional livestock grazing on communal pastures and transhumance (ancient custom of seasonal livestock droving to and from summer pastures in the high mountains)
- 1 day study of traditional and modern forestry practices: pine sap tapping, visit to sawmill and comparison of old growth and "new" managed forests.
- 1 day study of traditional agricultural practices in use today - terraced orchards, harvesting and collection methods for cherries, figs and olives. Goatherding and cheesemaking.
Orienteering & Mountain Navigation Skills Workshops in the Sierra de Gredos
A "long weekend workshop" designed for children 10 years and older, teenagers or adults in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, just 2 hours from Madrid:
- 1 day introductory session: morning classroom introduction to maps and compasses. Visit to Gredos Regional Park Visitor Center and short excursion to practice basic orientation with local instructor
- 2 days of morning theory, followed by walks in the alpine zone to practice skills. Excursion to Gredos Cirque and overnight stay at the Elola Mountain Hut
Multi-Activity in the Sierra de Gredos
A fun itinerary designed for teenagers in the Sierra de Gredos mountains, just 2 hours from Madrid, combining:
- 3 days trekking in the mountains including 2 overnights at the Elola Mountain Hut in the awesome Gredos Cirque
- 1 day of easy mountain biking along the drover's trails by the Tormes River
- 1 day combining a "cultural" visit to the walled city of Avila and a short hike to the impressive ruins of a Celtic hill fort
- 1 day of orienteering workshop and visit to a "rope adventure park".
Trekking in the Picos de Europa
A walking itinerary designed for teenagers in the north of Spain:
- 5 days trekking in the beautiful Picos de Europa mountains including 3 overnights in mountain huts
- 1 day at the beach, with overnight at the coast
- 1 day and night in Bilbao for shopping or visiting the Guggenheim Museum
