| THE "FRENCH" PILGRIM'S WAY TO SANTIAGO |
Although it was not the first route used, the "French" variant was the most well-travelled of the pilgrim's ways to Santiago de Compostela over the centuries and continues to be the route of choice for the bulk of modern-day pilgrims, with an incredible range of historical and artistic monuments dedicated to the apostle, accessible terrain, and the most well-developed infrastructure for attending to the needs of the continuous volume of travelers.
|
From France, the Pilgrim's Way crosses the Pyrenees at Roncesvalles or Somport, and continues 800 km westward across northern Spain, first through the mountains of Aragón, then into the fertile valleys of Navarre and La Rioja and next across the plains of Castile, before finally entering the verdant hills of Galicia. Our standard guided itinerary from León to Santiago covers approximately the last third of the route, taking you to the most emblematic spots - true jewels of Spanish art, architecture and history - and along the most beautiful walking stages of this last major stretch of the Pilgrim's Way in Spain. For those with more time, we can arrange a custom tour by mountain bike or on foot of the full French Pilgrim's Way in Spain. Please consult us for more information. |
